The Day Shelter is often a stable point in the lives of our clients in need, therefore its availability is of utmost importance. For this reason, we are open every day of the week from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, welcoming all clients who come to us. During the support process, clients are involved in solving their problems to the extent of their own abilities and their current physical and mental condition, in order to help them develop the capacity for independent living.

We provide: hygiene facilities (toilets, showers); first aid, organization of medical care, mental support, group activities, leisure programs (board games, card games, watching films, etc.), assistance in finding work and housing opportunities, administration, replacement of documents, provision of social information and counseling, and donation mediation. Homeless individuals are offered opportunities for daytime shelter, community presence, rest, personal hygiene, heating meals, dining, social administration with qualified staff, provision of a mailing address, and receipt of mail. Admission requires: a chest X-ray not older than 6 months and a negative dermatological report not older than 6 days; in addition, the applicant must be at least 18 years old and have a permanent address in Pest County. In the case of a foreigner with refugee status, admission is possible if they hold a residence permit.

At the temporary shelter, we welcome clients who have been trapped in long-term homelessness and are motivated to change their lives. They have one year to make changes and build a new life. During this time, social professionals provide counseling, case management, care tailored to the individual’s personality, and skill development to support our clients in achieving their goals.

Unfortunately, not everyone is able to leave homelessness within a year. In such cases, we do not let go of our clients’ hands, and if necessary, based on the recommendation of the professional team, the institution’s director may grant an additional year for those in need. Most of our clients come to the institution with the goal of solving their housing problems in the short term, improving their relationships, and having the opportunity to save money. Currently, the shelter provides accommodation for 16 men and 12 women. Women are housed in two three-bed rooms and one four-bed room, while men are accommodated in three or four-bed rooms and one five-bed room.

If necessary, supportive activities may also include supervision and household or substitute household assistance services, tailored to the individual needs of the clients.

The aim of the street social service is to provide social and mental support to people living permanently on the street. Our task is to find homeless people living in the service area, provide them with care, maintain contact, case management, and during crisis periods, daily monitoring.

In case of an emergency, we take immediate action: we remain on-site until the personnel providing care and intervention (on-call doctor, ambulance, police, etc.) arrive. Our goals include institutional placement and/or motivating and encouraging individuals to accept it. This is often the most difficult task, as those who have adapted to street life for survival are often reluctant to choose residential institutions due to the feeling of confinement.

Through continuous contact, we provide information to those in care, assist with administration, support them with food and clothing donations, and monitor their physical and mental condition. If necessary, we also help them access health and social services, provide advice, assist in solving lifestyle problems, and help manage conflict situations.

Our tasks also include mapping support systems, identifying and strengthening family relationships, and locating homeless individuals in need using a social mapping system. During crisis periods, we intensify our patrols (field visits) and maintain contact not only with people living permanently on the streets but also with all clients who may fall victim to extreme weather conditions. These individuals, families, and couples forming small communities are particularly vulnerable: they may be evicted at any time, and their often uninhabitable housing (without electricity, heating, or water) can become life-threatening at any moment.
