The Day Centre for Older People is specialised in providing daytime care for older people who live in their own homes and are partly able to care for themselves. The service is available on weekdays, and transport for older people is provided by the Centre for Social Care Érd.

The purpose of the centre is to complement family care by providing social and mental health support, improving the social situation of older people, reducing loneliness, preventing the harmful effects of inactivity, and improving their health and mental wellbeing.

We provide opportunities to take part in leisure programmes. On request, we help with official administration. We provide mental health support and maintain contact with family members.

At the centre, we provide three meals a day for our members: breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack. As part of healthcare support, we regularly measure our clients’ blood pressure and weight, and their blood sugar level on request. Manicure, pedicure and hairdressing services are available for a fee.

Dementia care

Since spring 2015, the Day Centre for Older People has also been able to receive older people experiencing cognitive decline, specifically mild dementia. Admission to this service requires an expert medical opinion issued by a psychiatrist or supported by the Dementia Centre.

For clients living with dementia, the purpose of mental health care and activities is to preserve, and as far as possible develop, their activity level. Our aims include delaying deterioration, overcoming feelings of uselessness, and ensuring a sense of wellbeing.

To achieve these aims, the following are essential:

  • individual activities
  • supportive conversations
  • creative activities
  • work-like activities
  • involving clients in group activities.

The organisation of activities ensures meaningful use of free time and the experience of creating something. It also supports the development of positive attitudes towards ageing. This form of care also helps relieve the burden on relatives, as they can know that their family member is supervised and safe.
