Supporting everyday life

The Institution’s child welfare system consists of the Family and Child Welfare Centre (which operates in the settlements of the district, providing care for children at risk and working to reduce and eliminate endangerment) and the local family support service providing municipal assistance.

Our professionals include social workers, social pedagogues, psychologists, family therapists and educators who support children and families. A key specialised service of the Family and Child Welfare Centre is social work in kindergartens and schools, where professionals are available on every school day in all educational institutions of the district, supporting their child welfare activities. In addition, street and housing estate social work helps identify and support children at risk, while also operating youth offices within the municipality.

Another specialised service of our Family and Child Welfare Centre is the supervised contact service, where separated parents and grandparents can maintain contact with their children or grandchildren when cooperation in everyday life is not possible in the child’s best interest.

Our child welfare service is available 24 hours a day. Outside opening hours, a crisis telephone service operates to ensure that no child is placed in a dangerous situation simply because the problem arises outside office hours.

Within the framework of residential care, our child welfare system provides irreplaceable support for families facing housing or financial difficulties. This allows parents to continue caring for their children while receiving the support needed to improve their long-term prospects in both the labour market and housing.

Professionals in the social sector provide assistance tailored to the needs of elderly people, persons with disabilities, and those facing housing difficulties. For elderly people, daily life at home is supported through home care services, including nursing and assistance. For their safety, a 24-hour monitoring and emergency response system is available through alarm devices.

Interested individuals can participate in programmes on weekdays at the day care club for older people. Those requiring more support can receive care in residential homes for the elderly. The services for older people complement each other, providing support for all challenges of later life and helping to ensure a calm and active old age.

The Institution provides shelter for those who cannot otherwise resolve their housing situation. A night shelter offers a safe environment and a place to rest overnight, while daytime services are available in a warming centre. Temporary accommodation is also provided for those who, with this support, can rebuild their lives and stabilise their housing in the long term. For individuals who cannot or do not wish to use institutional services, professionals provide low-threshold, harm-reduction services in public spaces.

We support the daily lives of persons with disabilities by assisting with everyday tasks in their homes, helping with transportation, and providing daytime activities and development programmes. The products of our ceramics and sewing workshops reflect the work of the people involved.

The Centre for Social Care provides support throughout all stages of life, from pregnancy to old age. The implementation of these services is supported by a civil organisation working alongside the Institution. Our professionals provide assistance not only “from behind a desk”, but also directly in clients’ homes and, when necessary, in public spaces. Services are available not only in person but also through online consultations.
